How far does the impact of the films you have studied for this topic depend on distinctive uses of film techniques? [35]

La Haine

The film shows how western culture is taking over French culture through different techniques. During the scene where Hubert looks out his window into the court yard he looks over to a window where someone is setting up a set of DJ decks and speakers. The Dj then plays a mix of classic french music (Non, Je ne regrette rein) and urban D&B music (Sound of Da Police). this mix of music swell as a above taking shot represents how western culture is taking over french culture in the projects. This is also show in the scene where we are introduced to Vinz. The is a panning shot of Vinz's room and within the mise-en-scene of the room many references to pop culture and western society are shown such as wrestling posters and vinz's T-shirt of spiderman. These two shots show a representation of how these youths are breaking out of french culture and are being influenced by western cultures. One of the characters most influenced by this is Vinz the scene 'you lookin at me scene' shows how Vinz is copying his aggressive actions from the Robert De Niro film Taxi Driver, during this scene a over shoulder show with a low anglet is used to reveal Vinz acting out a aggressive scene in the bathroom mirror, also a false mirror was used during filiming so that the illusion of you looking over vizs shoulder and into the mirror is creates without seeing the camera in the mirror as well.
